IC:

Character name: Sabata
Fandom: Boktai
Timeline: Post Boktai 3, best ending (where both he and Otenko live)

Age: It's never stated, but I put him around 17 or so.

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:

Sabata can use the Gun del Hel, a gun that allows him to fire bolts of darkness at the target. However, unlike his brother's Solar Gun, Sabata can only charge his inside a building or at night (basically away from the sun) and it doesn't have the range of customization that the Solar Gun does. The Dark Gun recharges naturally on its own but Sabata can speed up the process by raising his hand to the sky and calling "Ankoku". He can also use it to create a spread of darkness, which he uses as an attack by spinning around.

He can dash around very quickly if there's no sun out (although he takes double the damage if hit while doing so) and can warp to different places if he wants. Sabata also has access to an ability called a Black Hole which sucks up sunlight and can draw and trap people within it for a limited amount of time.

He is a Moon Beauty but beyond being able to open up the way to Jormungandr and making him a prime cadidate for unsealing Vanargand, the game doesn't go into much detail regarding what powers he has as one. Aside from letting the fandom make Sailor Moon jokes.

How would they use their abilities?: To keep his idiot brother out of trouble and maybe help people. Missions! And only missions >_>

Appearance: Sabata is a white teenager who looks rather thin. He wears a black long-sleeved shirt with a matching overshirt and black and purple shorts. He has purple hair that's kept back with a headband and he has red eyes and a scar on his left cheek. Around his neck is a pale-blue scarf that reaches down to his ankles.

Background/Personality:

Background

Sabata lived with his family before he was kidnapped and dragged to Istrakan, the City of Death. There his body was corrupted with Dark Matter and he became Hel's warrior. He shows himself in person while Django is walking down the Road of Encounter, shooting down the Solar Boy and warning him to turn back since Django had gotten his revenge against the Count, the Immortal who killed his father Ringo. When both Otenko and Django refuse, he says that they are destiend to settle their differences in the future and leaves. Otenko comments that Sabata looked and smelled the same as Django and that he couldn't be an Immortal - otherwise known as a vampire.

He shows up again at the Permafrost and says he has a little game ready for Django, which turns out to be the Lifefreezing Wolf Garmr (a large wolf) once he frees it. He taunts them after the battle and says he'll be waiting in the east. On Firetop Mountain Sabata once again summons a monster for his brother to fight - Muspell, a massive golem and then disappears after telling Django he'll be waiting at Sol City. Once Django gets there, the brothers end up in a quick fight at Otenko's prompting but he leaves after a bit. Soon after he catches the pair eavesdropping on his conversation with Carmilla and encourages Django to go ahead, which results in Otenko getting petrfied and Carmilla being purified, although Sabata seals her soul within his own. He shows up again but Hel - the Queen of the Immortals - commands him to return to her castle in the moon.

Once Django breaks the seals after beating his previous enemies, Sabata shows up again and the two get into a fight. After beating him once Sabata goes beserk and shoots out the lights for one last fight. When Django beats him again the Dark Boy collapses, stating he's too weak to hate his brother and tells Django to go save their mother, Mani. He then intervenes in the fight against Hel when she tries to kill Django after fusing with Mani and together they manage to defeat Hel and allow their mother to rest. However Sabata leaves in the end because he still needs to redeme Carmilla's soul.

In the second game, Sabata travels to the Remains because he heard the key to reviving someone lay there. Instead he ends up fighting the vampire who stole Django's Solar Gun and, after getting stunned and chewing out his brother for losing the gun, tries to get him to turn back since the vampire was too strong for Django. When he says he won't turn back, Sabata laughs and gives him the Cloud leans he managed to get off the vampire. He intervenes when the vampire tries to attack Django after Otenko is kidnapped by a strange shadow and teams up with his brother to take him down. After the fight it's revealed that the vampire is their father, Ringo, who apparently didn't die when San Migeul was attack by the Immortals in the first game. However in his madend state Ringo attacks Django and bites him before fleeing. Knowing that the vampire blood would overtake Django soon, Sabata drags him to the Piledriver in the hopes that it would purify him. Unfortunately it only manages to to turn Django into a half-vampire and Sabata collapses due to the sun's rays.

Sabata wakes up just in time to help Django when he collapses during Durthaor's purification and tries to intervene when Ringo steals the Tarot cards that would allow him entrance to the Adacuate where another seal lies. When the brothers corner their "father" it turns out he's been possessed by Black Dainn - the shadow-being who kidnapped Otenko and one of the Immortals. Dainn releases the seal and flees while Devlinn drags Django underwater. Sabata chases after Dainn and tracks him down to Spiral Tower where he's soon joined by Django. They make their way up the tower but Dainn still manages to release the final seal and explains his plan: to release the Doomsday Beast Jormungandr on the land so it'll swallow all life up, leaving the Immortals to rule the planet. The brothers team up once again to take Dainn down, although Sabata is knocked out at one point and purifying Dainn means purifying Ringo, meaning they both die. After discovering his powers as the next Moon Beauty, Sabata unlocks the way to Jormungandr and helps Django when the beast swallows him along with the rest of the townsfolk.

In the third game, Sabata has been turned into a puppet by the Immortals to awaken Vanargand. He attacks Django, nearly killing him, and seals him in a dungon. The brothers meet face to face eventually in the White Forest and do battle, with Django winning once again. Hoping to free Sabata from the Immortal's control, Django puts him in the Piledriver and activates it. However, it plays right into's Ratastok's - the Immortal controlling Sabata - hands and he takes the Dark Boy away.

Once Django makes it to the moon and defeats Ratastok, he finds Sabata already bound to Vanargand. They fight again but Django is able to defeat Vanargand without hurting Sabata. While trying to escape Vanargand when it starts to chase him, Django manages to use his Sol Form to weaken the beast so it was sealed in stone. Sabata is freed and the brothers return home with the world finally at peace.

...or at least until the world goes ka-boom and Sabata winds up on the SS Thor. Oops.

Personality

While Django is associated with the sun and generally has a sunny dispostion, Sabata is not as nice. He is usually pemissestic and tends to not look on the bright side of things. Sabata is not one to give out compliments freely, being a bit freer with insults, and will threaten his enemies with his words or force if necessary. However, the Dark Boy doesn't seem to have much regard for his own life. He's stated that he's willing to give up his life in exchange for Carmilla's and tells Zazie he's well away of the consequences of using the Piledriver with his body infused with Dark Matter but it's simply the way he fights and that he won't last long anyways. Sabata is aware than all life must end but he doesn't care. Resisting and fighting to the end is his way of life.

Despite generally not being a nice person, Sabata is capable of kindness. He returns Violet's pet cat Nero and assures her that he'll be fine after some rest, even though it's quite obvious that the conversation is awkward for him and he helped Kid when he was in trouble at the Remains (although he denied it when it was brought up). The biggest example of this is when Django is being infected by vampire blood and he tries to purify him with the Piledriver despite the fact that it could kill him. He does, on occasion, tease his friends and cheers up Zazie when she is feeling down. However Sabata also shows a more aggressive side when he's angered and even though he's usually stoic he can fly off the handle when pushed hard enough, as seen with the final fight against Django in the first game.

There are two relationships that shape Sabata over the course of the games. The first is his brother, Solar Boy Django. Sabata has the need to prove himself better than his brother, either through summoning monsters or fighting him himself. However, Sabata doesn't hate Django and states at one point that he is too weak to hate him. He is willing to lend Django a hand and teams up with him on a number of occasions to take down their enemies. Sabata also tried his hardest to save Django when he was bitten by their father and turning into a vampire even though using the Piledriver could kill him. Although it would take quite a bit for him to admit it Sabata does care about Django and despite insulting him frequently, he would fight by his brother's side and save his life if it came down to it.

The second is Carmilla. She was his first love and Sabata takes responsibility for killing her since his plan relied on all the Dark Guardians dying. He sealed her soul within his and takes a journey to try and revive her as a human. He has stated that she is the only reason that he has any kindness and that her presence in his soul is why he can use the power of a Moon Beauty (despite calling it his worst nightmare). At one point when he returns Violet's cat to her, he says that he can't believe he's helping someone and that Carmilla's preaching had effected him. Sabata is also noticably upset when it's revealed that Carmilla has to stay behind to keep Vanargand sealed away in stone and hopes that they will meet again in the afterlife. If it wasn't for Carmilla's influence when he was living in Istrakan, Sabata would probably have turned out to be a very different person.

In the first game Sabata was looking for complete power to sever his ties to Hel but by the time the second game rolls around, he's given up on that. When Dainn calls him inadequate Sabata says there's nothing wrong with that. It's because he and other people are incomplete that they can have hopes and dreams, which gives them the potentional for a better future. While Sabata isn't the most opmistic person around he's willing to look towards the future and all that it brings, especially since those were Carmilla's last words to him before she went to sleep with Vanargand.

All in all, Sabata is someone caught between the Moon's two conflicting powers: Lunacy and Mercy. He's not the most cheerful person in the world but he can still be kind. If you're a close friend you can count on him to help when the chips are down (although he probably will deny it). All it takes is the understanding that not everything in darkness is evil.

1st person sample: [the feed flicks on, revealing someone who looks a little...irritated. hey, being dragged to a spaceship, being told his world was destroyed a few days after saving it and having to fill out a bunch of paperwork wasn't Sabata's idea of fun. if anything it gave him a massive headache, though the sun wasn't helping matters either.

but he had to find out if he wasn't the only one from his world who ended up here. if he was still alive, his brother had a nasty habit of attracting trouble...]

I'm looking for someone. His name is Django and he looks like me. [except more nicer and more prone to heroic speeches.] Or anyone else from San Miguel, if they can hear this.

[a pause and before Sabata turns the guide off, it catches him muttering to himself]

It's far too "nice" out...

3rd person sample: This was taking forever.

The place was large and frustrating to navigate and even if he could warp around, Sabata wasn't sure he could find Django or anyone else from San Miguel anytime soon. Sabata didn't get a map - filling out those stupid forms had tried his patience far too much and asking questions just got him the response "Not my department." one too many times so he just wanted to get out as soon as he could - so he was mostly wandering around trying to find his idiot brother. The Dark Boy did consider the possiblity that they were telling the truth about his home being destroyed, but he'd have to see it before he believed it fully.

Besides, while Django was a walking trouble-magnet, he had the strength to go on. Everyone there did, had proved it to Sabata a number of times even though he had found the situations they found themselves in hopeless at the time. Even if Django wasn't here, one of them probably was and trying to find a way back.

...was that more of Carmilla's influence affecting him? Ah...even if she was gone, she still influenced his soul. He probably shouldn't be surprised at this point.

Sabata continued on, looking for his - dare he say it? - family and friends. He could accept it if his world was gone, but that would not stop him from moving on towards the future.
